I'm glad you posted this Second Life video....students will get to see how these virtual communities might "connect" people in some way. We talked last night about the isolating affects of technology. I wonder if this is a response to that notion?????
This is intense. I have heard of second life before but never new it was used for education. I actually know people who spend their time designing clothes for second life characters and sell them on the internet. People are willing to pay more for an outfit for thier second life characters then you would find an outfit at even more expensive stores like Abacrombie and Holister. I think this is insane.
Although I see some definate advantages to learning this way i dont know how much I like it. I think it would be a good tool to use on ocassion like the guided tours but I feel like if education was completely done through second life students would lose alot of interaction.
It does allow interaction, actually it allows alot of it but not in a way you interact with another student or teacher face to face.
I feel if this was used to replace traditional learning students would lose out on alot of social experiences, and I feel it would be harder for people to interact face to face.
